SANVADA | 3 New Career Categories Being Created by Artificial Intelligence

Author: Saito Rodger

Before, it was not clear how specifically artificial intelligence would create new jobs — but after deep thinking, experts have begun shedding some light on this topic. A research firm Gartner, claims AI will create 2.3 million new opportunities by 2020 – almost double the 1.8 million jobs it’ll have wiped away. But, that’s still a hot subject of debate.

However, one thing remains un-debatable: we will need a completely new support system from humans both professionals and non-professionals to develop, manage and guide AI. To be fully effective, the tech will need strategists, explainability and ethics compliance.

AI Needs Man and Man Needs AI

That’s the relationship which will co-exist in safe application of machine intelligence. H. James Wilson and Paul Daugherty have written a book, Human + Machines basing their logic in pure research – which involved over 1500 organizations. They say the more AI gets sophisticated the more we will need experts to advise and manage the technology.

Of cause, there is a lot, specialists cannot see for now because we are still in the early stages of this tech. However, Wilson and Daugherty have discovered three completely new career categories being birthed by artificial intelligence.

Machine Trainers

Trainers are and will be the category of professionals who literary educate — or to be precise, train the machines to adapt how humanity functions. Before, people went to school to learn how a machine works, to be able to interact and work with it. Now it’s the opposite – machines are learning from us and it’s not that easy for them. In fact, faster processors and chips like the memristors need to be invented to at least reduce machine learning time which is regarded as the biggest hurdle.

Besides teaching agents, the trainers may also be involved with things like troubleshooting, error correcting, data cleaning as well as work with an organization’s top management to design the AI systems – to customize the behavior of the machines to coincide with the purpose of the user. Businesses will also require software to be served from the cloud which means jobs for other establishments.

This will be the team to ensure proper application of AI. In other words, these experts will tackle the fears and threats surrounding misuse of machine intelligence. Like the quality control department in a company, their work will be to ensure AI systems exist to serve humanity and not the other way round.

“Sustainers will set limits, approve or disapprove new AI-powered tools as well as ensure systems that are already in place remain compliant with legal regulations and ethical expectations.”

Experts working as Explainers will be crucial in ensuring technologists, entrepreneurs and all parties concerned remain on the same page – as far as information exchange is concerned. However, the importance of this career will grow as the systems become more complex and sophisticated. “These will be the people to explain how the source code of an algorithm used in a court of law functions to arrive at a decision.”

It’s also worth mentioning is that new training centers offering AI related careers to aspirants will pop up, which means the categories are broader than they seem. The two experts Wilson and Daugherty also made it clear that these new jobs are not in any way related to replacing existing jobs, and chances are that more AI careers will branch from those three categories.
